…………seen in donkeys years at Easter Road – Well done Hibernian and well played United.
Straight to the fitba, what a game, three soft goals given away by Hibs, three good goals scored by Hibs. Hibs goalie disnae save one of 8 penalties, United keeper saves two and ex Hibby John Rankin missed….did I mention the good chances we missed or the brilliance of Scott Allen? What a game.
To the players…
Oxley – Not at fault for the three goals, but you have to question a goalie who dives the same way eight times at penalties and disnae save one?
Gray – Was excellent as ever and his penalty was well hit but equally very well saved by the United keeper.
Hanlon and Fontaine both looked shaky at times tonight. Ok they were up against better players but I felt they were at fault, two possibly three of the goals. Hanlon did take an excellent penalty. Like every Hibernian player tonight they did their best and I was proud of them, regardless of their errors.
Stevenson – Had to do a tough shift and for me made too many daft mistakes tonight before putting in a wonder cross for Crazy Jase’s goal. We need our consistent players to be consistent Louis, you set the bar son, keep the standards high .
Scott Robertson – Started slowly but came onto a decent game although he looked buggered by extra time. Applauded by the United fans as he went off, he deserved that.
Craig – I thought he was poor first half but actually did well second half and in extra time and took his penalty well.
Handling – Again I thought he played the link up role pretty well and gave his all tonight?
Scott Allen- There are not enough words to describe how good Scott is, he was wonderful. What a pass for Malongas goal. He drives at players, can take a man on, passes and is worth the entry fee alone. I like Scott Allen, I like him a lot. He scored a good penalty too.
Malonga – Took his goal very, very well, took his penalty even better. He was a handful but plays like he loves a puff and a chill.
Cummings – Missed a sitter, scored a corker and was hard done by when taken off.
Boozy – Came on for Cummings and we seen a bit more him tonight, looked a wee bit more like his old self and scored a good penalty.
Kennedy – Came on for Handling and scored a beauty of a 25 yarder. His penalty was well saved, dinnae let your head go down, like every Hibernian player tonight you did our Club proud.
Stanton – Came on for the buggered Robertson, didnae have much time to do anything other than score a good penalty.
Stubbs – Other than not bringing a sub on a tad earlier when Robertson was cream crackered, Stubbsy and his backroom team are creating something good here. Fans that aren’t going for whatever reason, pick a game and go and see this team, its going places and I like the way they go about things. Try and avoid teams that play for a point though.
Ref – Could have booked their cheat for diving, didnae, but booked Stevenson for his first foul, otherwise, seen much worse this season.
United – Smashing team, that play good attacking football, have a bit of bite and brought over 1500 fans. Well played.
However and most importantly, our team, Hibs, matched United all over the pitch, had we won there could be no complaints, we lost and I have no complaints because tonight saw Scottish football at its best, two good teams, a decent crowd, excellent football, and plenty young Scottish players. I am disappointed we did not win, but proud of Stubbsies boys, they played for the jerseys and it is as good a game of football as I have seen at Easter Road since the days of Tony Mowbray.
Get along and see them if you can.
