Hibernian 3 Alloa 0
Where have all the Hibs fans gone from Tuesday night? Just under 9000 today, over 16000 Hibs fans Tuesday, frankly it’s not acceptable. Hope you enjoyed the win on the telly guys.
I was joined today by fellow Bouncer Dub, good to have a blether during the game.
Seven changes from Tuesday with us starting with a back three of Hanlon, Fontaine and Gunnarsson, a five man midfield that included two wingers in Boyle and Carmichael, Marvellous Marvin, Dylan and Liam Henderson in midfield with Keatings and Dagnall. Stokes, Cummings, McGinn on the bench, I just don’t think I understand. Alan Stubbs is some man, he had a cunning plan, because he knew he’d bring on John McGinn. We also saw Darren McGregor on the bench, a bit unfair to be honest, he has been great recently.
We actually started pretty well, with Boyle and Carmichael looking lively, we played with a high tempo and Boyle slotted home after three minutes. Henderson worked like a Trojan, Marvin was super cool, and hard as nails, Gunnarsson was the best of the back three, the two strikers were powderpuff though. Second half was like a training game and only the introduction Super John McGinn perked up the play and the crowd. I felt we needed more goals and I fully understand resting players, but I felt we needed more impetus and we need more goals, playing the hapless Keatings and hard working but shot shy Dagnall disnae help. Still, three goals (Big G will be happy), a clean sheet and three points will do. It won’t bring the missing fans back, but then beating the Jambos doesn’t seem to have done it either?
Mark Oxley had a couple of good saves mixed in with a flap or two.
Gunnarsson was excellent today, ok Alloa didnae bring much to the table, but Big Nick was braw through out.
Paul Hanlon done everything he had to and was particularly impressive at left half for the last twenty.
Liam Fontaine did ok, but he still missed a couple of headers in the opposition box and misplaced a couple of passes. I prefer Darren McGregor.
Marvin Bartley played very well, he really has become a real first pick.
Liam Henderson had an excellent first half and a very good second one. Given Thellick’s reported 17 midfielders, I hope he joins us permanently. I enjoy watching the boy play and his work rate is fantastic.
Martin Boyle blaws hot and cold. I thought he did well when he came on versus the Gorgie bums and I thought he was excellent today. He scored two, set up a couple more and never stopped charging forward. Well played son.
Danny Carmichael is another laddie that blows hot and cauld, he looks like a schoolboy sometimes. Today I thought he had his best game in a green shirt and there were signs through out the game as to what Alan and his scouts seen in him. Took his goal well too. Well played son.
Keatings was hopeless again, done nothing apart from set up Danny’s goal. What happened to him?
Dagnall disnae stop working, he simply needs a goal I think.
John McGinn came on and as ever improved the game. He replaced Dylan McGeouch who sadly looked like his injury was back. Great to watch John, he has to start every game though, Alan.
Thommo came on for Marvellous Marvin and did just dandy. Kevin is a very good player and passes well.
McGregor came on for Dagnall, we went to a back two/ four and Paul Hanlon and Nick Gunnarsson were encouraged to get down the flanks the last ten. Whilst Darren had nowt to do, Paul and Nick did very well and looked dangerous pushing forward.
OK this wisnae the same as beating the Gorgie Farm 11, but Stubbs and Co had us do enough to win comfortably. I still prefer to see Jase and Stokesy on the field scoring goals.
Alloa sat deep but did have a few chances, their 17 Layne, was a handful who strangely was taken off after 50 or so minutes, but their manager is ex of Gorgie so nae surprise.
The referee didn’t do much wrong today, that is saying something in Scottish football nowadays.
My man of the match today for me was not Liam Henderson as selected by the sponsor, it might have been as he was very good. Big Gunnarsson. Marv and Danny Carmichael also gave us decent shifts. For me, Martin Boyle earned the man of the match for his two well taken goals and overall performance.
Three points in the bag, keep making the Huns twitchy Hibs, we will catch them.
Axe the Act!
