891987-1

What can I do….as Northern Soul Chantress Judy Street once belted out. Well all I can do is wax lyrical about our football club. Yet again, a stroll in the park against a team that gave us hell lest season. After a stuttering first ten minutes as the large crowd settled in Hibernian slowly got their act together and went on to comfortably thump Duff Jimmy’s distinctively poor team.

Nae Dylan, no doubt resting a torn sock again, but it mattered not as Marv, McGinn, Shinniesta and Fantastic Fraser simply played around Morton, in another midfield masterclass. I said last week that McGeouch is the key, he is not , he is one of a bunch of key players. Fraser Fyvie was immense today, for me Shinniesta was even better, Marvin improved as the game went on and Super John had a smashing second half.

4 headed goals, by 4 differing players, two of which were pretty damn decent too.

The noise second half was fantastic, emanating from the Since 1875 lads n lassies and simply rippling round the ground, its great to being amongst happy Hibby’s again, it really is.The positive feeling reaches the pitch and Hibernian play better. Simple stuff.

The ref was rotten, Muir has a snidely look about his slapped erse face and gave us very little. Morton gave less, wisnae much about them at all.

So to the Hibs players….

Rocky Marchiano had nothing to do today, he could have stood at the top of the steps of the East Stand shouting Adrienne all game and it wouldn’t have mattered.

David Gray, scorer of the winning goal in the Scottish Cup Final 2016 captaining Hibernian FC in their first Scottish Cup win in 114 years had a good game up and down that line all game.

Darren McGregor, he’s a class defender and strolled through the game, blootering as required.

Paul Hanlon had a wobbly start, miss-passing, losing challenges for the first 10 minutes, then he reverted to being a wonderful centre half.

Lewis Stevenson, who has won both League and Scottish Cup medals as a Hibs player, had a smashing game, again up and down the line all game, linking well with Super John and Shinniesta, especially second half.

Marvin Bartley had a bit of a battle on today with a couple of the Morton players. Whilst he done well,he needed to blooter one of them rather than their lightweight players. He didn’t but had a good game. Was replaced with Keats with 20 to go and he earned his standing ovation.

Fraser Fyvie was simply excellent today, one of our most under rated players, he proved how valuable he is to Hibs today, earning the match sponsors man of the match with an excellent performance.

John McGinn had an indifferent game, improving second half but then I reckon teams double up on John. I just don’t think they understand. I heard a wee rumour an English Premiership team inquired about John this week. Hibs have valued him as a starting bid of 3 million. No idea if its true or bollocks.

Andrew Shinnie was a joy to behold, a positive forward thinking midfielder with no lack of skill, a lovely touch, a clever pass and scores. Shinniesta indeed. I fair enjoyed watching him go, he has become a fans favourite already. Scoring the first in his home debut sealed the deal for me.

Grant Holt has frustrated me so far, but today he scored the goal I thought he might do often for us, a well taken back post header. He done well today. Lenny swapped him for Brian Graham, who might have given away which school he went to when he came on with 25 minutes to to.

Jason Cummings done what Jason Cummings does, is a nuisance, a pest, frustrating to watch sometimes but he scores goals. Hid did just that today. He also provided a fantastic cross for Brian Graham to nod home the fourth goal well. He was replaced by Squirrel with 15 minutes to go.

The Subs

Brian Graham came on for Holt and looked very decent, scoring a fine back post header following a wonderful cross from Jason Cummings, Baby.

Keats then replaced the Bartman and did well, wanting the ball, some lovely touches and good passing moves. What an improvement in the bearded lad.

As Shrink has said previously Martin Boyle plays football the Hibernian way, so does his Mrs (where I think the Doc is really looking for the photies of). He might have or indeed should have had a hatrick today. Be more clinical son, but keep racing forward, its what we want to see, other refs will give you fouls when big huddy west coast full backs pull the shirt from your back. Be more clinical in your finishing, you might of had three son.

Morton wurnae very good and seemed to have a few hun b******* in their end, who left after our third goal. I was very proud of the Hibernian fans who game fellow Hibs fan and League Cup medal winner Andy McNeil a warm round of applause when he replaced their other goal keeper with 20 minutes to go. #oneofourown.

The referee was poor today, is a he a Jambo?

The crowd was second largest in Scotland today, a good Hibernian team get the fans back. The guys in Since1875 get the funky beat going, a happy Holy Ground joins in.

Lenny and co, keep it going guys, this fan is very impressed, I love fast flowing, clever football with a dig, we are seeing just that. The mythical Hibernian way live and in your face.

Man of the match was, for me, a straight choice of two wonderful midfielders, the match sponsor gave it to Fraser Fyvie, I will give it to Shinniesta. If it had been the other way about I would have been equally content. This football club have some wonderful players.

This is a Hibs team in the making, keep what we have until next summer at least, add one more and we will leave the rest behind and return to the place we belong.

Rest in Peace Sam and Lesley-Ann, we are Hibernian FC!

Keep the Faith!

The Phoenix is rising…..

Mark
