Hibs are enjoyable to watch away from home. First half was the Scott Allan show, he was magnificent, ably supported by much of the team. Second half, it was a wobbly 20 minutes of comical defending, followed by fast, flowing football, crisp passing, lovely touches and great shots. Can we play away from home every week?
700 Hibs fans squeezed into the ground with one stand, it is a harsh reminder how the once mighty have fallen, but we got our rewards in the end.
Oxley – Surprised to see him back and if I am honest I am not sure he was fully fit, he should have saved the third goal for me and seemed slow off his line all game?
Gray – Yet another solid performance, whether tearing down the line or putting in no nonsense tackles, he is the best right back we have had in years.
Hanlon – Had a good first half but a wobbly second. He and Fontaine just cannae win enough headers and when they do, they do not get enough on them. One or two of his long passes worked, one or two didnae. I noted his ding dong with Nish first half, well done Paul, paying attention in the man up classes worked. Took his goal well though.
Fontaine – A decent player, but almost too like Hanlon, which means we dinnae win enough of the ball in the box.
Stevenson – Louis put in a great shift, and like Gray, gives us strength down our flank.
Robertson – Good to see Scott back. When he is left to be the defensive midfielder, he is decent. I thought he did well today and I am happy he is back.
Craig – I am hard on Craig, he has let us down a lot, and first half today was another Liam Craig performance – somewhat. BUT I thought second half he had a very decent game and looked like the player I thought we signed last season. Keep that up Liam.
Handling – Another player I am not too fond of, and again he proved me wrong with a decent performance, some very insisive passing and planty work rate. Keep it up Danny, I have no trouble with any Hibs player proving me wrong.
Allan – Took his goal very well, opening the scoring. First half today, Scott Allan was magnificent, what a football player, the way he beats a man is graceful, his lofted passes a joy to behold, his short passing needs some improving, but man that laddie is good. When playing like that he is a Scottish Iniesta, brialliant. Second half, it was a different Scott Allen and he barely contributed. I think he often disnae do much first twenty of the second half, today that extended to the full second half, excluding the odd moment of magic. There were idiots behind me critical of him after a loose pass, I shouted them down telling young Scott to ‘do what he wants’, as when he puts his mind to it, he can.
Cummings – Worked his socks off today and he must be frustrated that the goals are not coming, but keep plugging away son.
Malonga – He is one annoying bugger, he looks lazy and disinterested, but them scores three fantastic goals, one of them a crisp 20 yarder, the other two beautifully worked by the Hibs players and slotted away with consumate ease by the big fellae. Smashing, if slightly irritating.
Stanton – Came on after about 75 minutes for Handling and done well, scoring a fine goal and getting himself involved.
Kennedy – On for Cummings and didnae have much time to do very much, but did actually make a decent chance to make it seven right at the end.
Harris – On for Allan with a few minutes to go, no time to make his mark.
Stubbsy and co – When Hibernian play the beautiful game the right way, they really do play the beautiful game, its a joy to watch. Us older Hibby’s are often criticised by the young team for our romantic memories/ dreams of the Hibernian Way to play football, the mythical warrior poet stuff of legend. Well, feck it, Stubbsy’s laddies are giving us this and me and many other old romantics are lapping it up. Keep it up Alan, when Hibs are in full flow, and we make that the norm, the crowds will come flocking back. When we defend like a Terry bassa Butcher team, we will chase them all away again, sort out that defense and pep them up a bit more at half time, too many games we play poorly for at least part of the second half Alan, pal. We are heading in the right direction that and should have the Huns in our sights, they will be shiting themselves. Stubbsy, Stubbsy!
Dumbarton – A decent enough team, who were eh…. robust in the challenge and had a few Hibs fans arses going for 20 or so minutes second half.
Referee – A useless, inconsistent, imbecile who missed a number of bookable fouls. I hate saying it, but he looked like the Jambo he is today.
Crowd – 1400 at the game, half of whom were Hibs fans. Atmosphere was tepid though, although the Section boys tried their best, along with some aulder faces who will never ken better, eh Neil?
In summary, 6-3 to Hibs is a great sounding score. Surreally we scored 6 excellent goals with some magical football creating them. We also lost three piss poor goals though. At half time, I though we might score the six, I never seen the three from Dumbarton coming though, we were very poor defensively for 20 to 30 minutes and must improve that, and I don’t just mean defenders, everyone has a job to defend where needed, some didnae do it well enough.
Tell ye one thing, when we play like that it is thoroughly enjoyable watching Hibernian again.
